Natal Beaches Brazil Guide – Find Your Sun, sea and fun
Natal Beaches Brazil are to be found all around its long coastline. Let’s begin in the north. The Praia do Meio area is in the northern part of Natal: Praia do Meio, Praia dos Artistas (around Chaplin) and Areia Preta are resorts which are in this area, amongst others.

Scuba diving in Natal Brazil is nowhere better than in Praia do Forte, down south towards Salvador. This resort is surrounded by reefs for you to explore so bring your snorkel and flippers along with your picnic. You will find small natural holes in the reefs which when low tide comes are filled with sea life, fish, squid and so on, fantastic for snorkeling.
Praia do Forte is a great beach park resort, where you will also find the TAMAR project helping turtles re-procreate. You can be apart of this by watching and assisting newly hatched turtles find their way to the sea, and even hold, pet and feed different kinds of turtles. The waters are quiet, making them good for bathing and windsurfing. Be aware, though, that this is a military zone so you have to leave before 5pm. It will still be a great day out!
Urban Beach of the Artists - Praia dos Artistas – the nightlife starts here with the Chaplins nightclub. As you might imagine, Areia Preta (meaning "Black Sand") has black patches the sand; don’t worry – it’s certainly not pollution. Natal’s beaches are beautifully clean. No – they’re mineral deposits. Come to this Natal Beaches Brazil to watch the waves crashing on the rocks, but avoid the walk to the fortress in the dark; it might be romantic, but it’s also treacherous. Leave it to the daytime.
Natal Beaches Brazil are surrounded by coral reefs and at low tides which is great for scuba diving and swimming, but it’s also great for children as low tide leaves rock pools full of local marine life and plants. Praia dos Artistas is also famous for surfers as the waves get bigger here than at Ponta Negra. The hotels along the Natal Beaches Brazil where you can feast yourselves or stay – are cheaper than Ponta Negra too.
Via Costeira, literally ‘clear water’ is the 10km strip of beach between Praia dos Artistas and Ponta Negra. Opened in 1984, the beaches are quiet and the waves are small, making them good for strolling hand in hand with a loved one or taking a dip in the calm waters.
Ponta negra is Natal’s most famous resort. Most of the fun happens at this one of the Natal Beaches Brazil, which is about 4km long. Walk from here to Morro do Careca, Natal’s most famous landmark. The beachside is lined with great places to eat and drink. You’ll be spoilt for choice!
To the morth of Natal, the diving is superb. At Maracajaú are the "parrachos" – or rock pools – are a majot attraction for scuba diving. Here, it’s also worth checking out the Ma-noa Park, a large water park.
Jacuma offers beautiful lagoons and dunes. You can take full advantage of these natural beauties by taking an aerobunda (aero=aerial; bunda=hind): a hand-made leather seat hung from steel ropes; with one end of the rope at the top of the dune, the other near the border of the lagoon, 20 meters below. Whiz down to the lagoon below – it’s well worth the trip! If you still have a stomach, grab a meal at one of the rustic restaurants at the lagoon’s edge and experience the real Natal. If you’ve got the speed bug, after lunch you could try a ski bunda – a small wooden board on which you sit to slide down about 50m of sand dune.
One of the most famous Natal Beaches Brazil in Rio Grande do Norte, Jenipabu is located in Extremoz, which is the first city north of Natal and so close enough to easily visit. Grab a driver and let them take you on a wild dune ride – it’s an experience not to be missed. At the other extreme, which not try the return dune trip on a camel – it will certainly be something to write home about! Back at the beach - eat at Restaurante 21, one of the postcards of Jenipabu. The restaurant has an amazing view. Hire a board and practice a sandboarding: sit on a board an slide down the dunes to splash in the sea waters.

Lastly, one of my favourite Natal Beaches Brazil is Praia da Pipa. It’s a small cozy village set on the edge of one of Brazil’s many secondary rainforests (It has been regrown after being cut down, also called atlantic rainforest), over looking a beach with dolphins. Several boat tours can be made to swim and watch dolphins from a comfortable boat deck, and stops for dives and snorkeling. This is a romantic location with stars, moon and sunsets and a good destination for couples aswell as for kids. Be wary of big differences between high tide and low tide here though.
To sum it up; whatever you want – relaxation or excitement, stunning scenery or adrenalin rush, Natal beaches Brazil offer it all.
